Related: About this forumThis is Bear - a good boy who helps to detect koalas
Australia's koala bear population has been hit particularly hard, as the tree-dwellers cannot quickly run or fly from the approaching flames like other animals.
Bear had already been trained to sniff out the koalas, by a research team that studies them. Now those researchers are relying on Bear to find koalas, so they can take them out of harm's way.

The koalas are endangered and although Bear is helping, his handler admitted that what he's doing is only "a drop in the bucket." Other dogs have been trained but the devastation is so vast that they need more help.
