Update #2

Hudson's osteosarcoma in his jaw was unoperable. I talked to the radiation oncologist and she was honest that, without surgery first, his prognosis with the radiation was not great---even if it hadn't spread to his lungs (he had a cough at the time that was of unclear origin).

So...I want to a holistic vet in Pennsylvania, not far from my house in Delaware. The appointment was today and, after a very difficult night for him--crying every couple hours--I half thought she'd tell me that today was the day. She did not, however, and recommended that I stop one of the medications he was on (an appetite stimulant that is high in sugar--she said it feeds cancer cells). She also set up a regimen of ozone therapy, intravenous Vitamin C, accupuncture & some Chinese herbs for pain (from his cancer and arthritis) that reduce inflammation.

She says the above attacks cancer by stimulating the immune system. Got an herbal injection today and an ozone treatment. All I can say thus far is that he is home and sleeping like a log right now. He was dehydrated and has a level 3 heart murmur that I wasn't aware of. She said that can lead to some fluid in the chest that could be the source of the cough...especially since he hasn't been moving around a whole lot.

We go back Tuesday to start a 4-day-in-a-row Vitamin C and Ozone protocol. My job is to puree his chicken, rice, & pumpkin mixture and get it into him, along with the herbs (which I googled and are for pain in the head/mouth).

It sounds like you've found a good place for care and to make his days the best they can be. I'm glad he's able to get some rest. Please keep us posted on Hudson's treatment.

We did that with our last dog, a rescued GSD named Silver. She was diagnosed with a 9x13cm tumor in her lung. We could have bought some time if we removed the lobe, but recovery was 6 months, and she wouldn't have been able to be active. We opted against the surgery for quality of life. They put her on steroids to ease her breathing. I found a food program that brought her back up to a healthy weight - Dr. Harvey's. It's vitamins, dehydrated veggies, brown rice, flax, among other things. You add in the protein and oil (we used salmon) of your choice, we also added in a scoop of pumpkin or yogurt. Silver must have really liked the food because she would stand between the kids and me when I was at the stove fixing it for her.

I would love it if you could let me know or PM me the name of the holistic vet you found. Noelle has deteriorated some with her degenerative myelopathy (DM), and although our vet is awesome, they've only suggested Galaprant (which gave her major gastric/intestinal bleeding) and Gabapentin for nerve pain. They really didn't talk about PT (which can slow down the degeneration), accupuncture (which can ease some of the nerve pain), etc. From what I've read, there is nothing that can really be done for DM, but even making her more comfortable would help.

Wishing your baby best wishes & better health.

Thank you for mentioning *holistic vet* - I just googled & found one 60miles from me. Bet we'll be needing her one day.
