My girls are house dogs, with a fenced backyard - I've never taken them to the lake, but I know people do. If I saw water like that, I wouldn't let them near it, and I hope everyone thinks that way too. Lake Erie used to be in pretty bad shape, I'd say 25 years ago? Not a lake-goer, but I think it's way improved and swimmable now.

To my unhappy surprise, there was a swath of green algae all along the edge of the beach. This is the first time I've seen it on this lake.

Needless to say, my "swimmer dog" was forbidden from going in the water and we left so as not to have the temptation in front of her.

My other dog wouldn't step in any water, even if there was a floating table covered with dog treats waiting for him.
