Snowflake and I had a setback yesterday.

I had a a bit of a setback with Snowflake yesterday. I fed her in the afternoon and decided to try to move her to my place. I took a leash and just looped it around her neck and let her wear it a few minutes to see if she would reject it and she didn't. Lots of ear rubs and encouragement before gently leading her down the street. She responded well to the lead and was quite calm. I knew there would be a problem with my neighbor's dogs. Danny has a large fenced lot with construction equipment and guard dogs! A German Shepard, a big blue hound and a small brown mutt. All very loud in defense of the property. I did my best to prepare Snow but to no avail. We got to within 50' of my driveway and then she panicked, slipped the leash and ran back to the old place. I went back and tried the leash again but she was having none of it. Much comforting and an attempt to get her into my car--not gonna happen, she's terrified of the car. She still likes me and her trust is growing so it's not all that bad.

I'll feed her twice today and again on Friday morning but then I'll be gone for the weekend so I'll try again next week. I'm sure Danny or wife Lisa will contain the guard dogs for me to get Snowflake home -- all three of his dogs are rescues just like Snowflake.

Meanwhile I have completed her shelter. I'll leave the one side open for now and should she still be living outdoors when it gets cold I can enclose 2/3 of that side and put a petdoor in the remaining opening for warmth. It is intentionally small for a dog her size so her body heat can warm it if necessary. Yeah, my back yard is a bit of a mess as it doesn't get enough light to grow grass which is a good thing in the summer as shade is a big deal in the Texas summer.

events of yesterday. Besides I'm going to be gone over the weekend and I want her to see me and be fed by me as much as possible right after the move.

Once you have her she will begin to become the dog she was meant to be. She will let you become her trusted guardian.

P.s. don’t apologize for your yard. No one who cares even notices. 💕
