Dog stayed with body of missing hiker, found in L.A. park
LOS ANGELES (AP) A hiker who went missing two weeks ago was found dead in Griffith Park with his dog by his side, authorities said. The dog apparently hadnt left Hernandezs side for two weeks.
Oscar Alejandro Hernandez, 29, was reported missing on March 16. His body was found Thursday night in a remote area of the sprawling urban park. His Golden Retriever, King, was emaciated but alive, having faithfully remained with his owner until his body was discovered.
Hernandez was last seen near the park merry-go-rounds hiking trails, according to a missing person flier posted by his family. A search and rescue team used a helicopter to remove Hernandezs body from the steep hillside near a merry-go-round in the east end of the park. There was no immediate word on the cause of his death.
Griffith Park is one of the largest urban parks in the United States, covering 4,210 acres of land in the citys Los Feliz neighborhood. Situated in the eastern Santa Monica Mountain range, the Parks elevations range from 384 to 1,625 feet above see level,
