(23,950 posts)blue-eyed cats. Weve had 3 (none right now) and I was totally mesmerized by their eyes. If sometimes felt as if they were a cat & human hybrid.

(6,791 posts)I would be inclined to call him a lynx-point Himalayan Hopefuly he would not take that for an insult - it's certainly not meant that way.

(34,407 posts)When I first adopted him, but he still has tons of energy. As his foster said, hes a handful!
He was abused, so patience is necessary!

(21,345 posts)he is in a good home now.
My little lady came from a home that was so neglectful that it was abusive. The woman who had Ember's mother had an "anything goes" attitude toward her children, grandchildren, and pets. She was a coworker of mine and freely told me of Ember's experiences as if they were amusing jokes.
When I went to pick up Ember at 9 weeks old, I saw that both children and pets were completely unsupervised. Ember came from a small litter of 3 and was the runt. She had to fight for access to nursing until her littermates were given away. Her older half brother had viciously attacked her but the family dog protected her. It was 2 weeks before Christmas and Ember was allowed to play freely with the cord for the tree lights, causing them to flicker and go out. She had no socializing with people.
The coworker put Ember on the couch for me to see, flipped her on her back, and very roughly shook her whole body with her hand on Ember's belly. The more Ember tried to escape, the harder she got roughed up. When she finally got free, she tumbled quickly over to the dog and hid between his legs while this woman laughed at Ember's fear of her.
It was weeks before I was able to pet Ember without her hissing and attacking my hand. Her default greeting for everyone was a hiss and a growl. But once she got used to her freedom and safety, her personality blossomed into an amusing, very playful, and smart little kitty. Still, she was over 1 year old before she stopped making sudden, no warning attacks on my hand. To her, hands were enemies.
She is 6 years old now and loves to nudge my hand and rub my face to snuggle and get petted.

Had no clue how the kitten felt, and didnt care. I am so glad you came into her life when you did.
My vet inferred that my kitty had been shot in the mouth with a BB gun and left to suffer. Shortly after adoption I took him in for a dental cleaning and the vet tech discovered 2 BBs embedded underneath his tongue. You can probably imagine how this could have happened; I try not to.
Even after healing from their removal, and eating cat food regularly, he was determined to eat any food I was eating or was left in a wrapper. Obviously he had to scavenge for some time before rescue.
He was a recreational biter at first but it didnt take long for him to stop that with me, but he still is much too rough with one of my other cats, so were working on this. At first I wanted them to sort it out, but now I intervene. I wonder if my buddy never had a chance to be a kitten and play with others, or be taught by a mama cat, and doesnt know how to read another cats signals. I play with him a lot and hes learning to go outside with his leash and harness.
He hates being picked up but will come and cuddle about once a day.

(21,345 posts)That poor kitty. So glad that he is safe and loved now. He looks so adorable. How could anybody do anything but hug him?
I entertained other coworkers with stories of Ember's funny and precocious behavior as her personality developed. So one day when Ember was 2 years old, the coworker that I got her from asked to stop by my place to see her. I agreed, partly in the hope that she'd get a clue about how cute and smart a well treated cat could be. Ember was well adjusted at my place by then and had changed so much that she usually greeted visitors with a leg rub.
But the instant that the coworker entered my place and spoke, Ember recognized her voice and scent. Ember leaped onto the kitchen counter, arched her back, and hissed and growled fiercely, with one paw up in strike position, toes splayed and claws out. She would not let the woman get closer than 6 feet to her.
I was surprised that Ember remembered and reacted after 2 years and felt guilty for agreeing to let this woman see her. At work the next day, this clueless lady told people that Ember didn't seem so "sweet" to her and had tried to attack her. Another coworker said she had met Ember when she stopped by my place to pick up something and had found Ember very friendly and cute. She made a joking comment, not knowing how true it was, that maybe Ember had been afraid that her former owner was going to take her back.
I swore that I would never let Ember be traumatized again by letting that woman near her.
