Chicago-Area Veterinarian, Pet Owners Warn of Increase in Leptospirosis Cases

https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/chicago-area-veterinarian-pet-owners-warn-of-increase-in-leptospirosis-cases/2948543/

The bacterial disease is spread through urine and can be deadly if left untreated.

There’s growing concern in Illinois over leptospirosis, a bacterial disease that can be deadly to dogs if left untreated. NBC 5’s Kate Chappell talked to several pet owners who are spreading the word after tragic losses.

Spay Illinois, a low cost clinic in Lisle first posted about the uptick, writing on Facebook, "There is a Leptospirosis outbreak in Kane County, Cook County, Will County and surrounding areas."

Stephanie Paluch shared the post after one of the puppies her group rescued died from the disease, also known as Lepto.

Good thing I did because a foster cat tested for toxo! My vet was so helpful to me, once hauling out pet food mfgr's books on their analyses so I could avoid certain diet related issues. That took at least an hour! When we found out I had a toxo cat, he explained how it's spread. It needs to "blossom" or "floret" or something after leaving kitty's body before it'll spread. So, actually, if a pregnant lady scoops twice a day, her chances are minimal. But even clumping lumps aren't perfect, so why take a chance?

Can confirm!
I contracted lepto after swimming in a waterfall pool on Maui's road to Hana.
I was out of service for 3-days.

Oahu!!! Some health show recently covered some debilitating disease spread by snails... they crawl on the vegetables of health conscious gardeners who may not adequately wash their vegetables before eating them raw, again to be healthy!!! Sometimes you can't win!
