Man and Dog

I saw Loudon Wainwright III in concert last evening. I have collected a bunch of his albums over the years, but this was my first time seeing a live performance. I enjoyed the show. Aging, family, and history were big themes, but a couple of standouts for me were about dogs. First, a soliloquy/eulogy for a longtime family companion - it was moving, sincere, and funny. Then, there was a song about a dog and city life.

Now, I am a man with two dogs living in the country, so my experience is a bit different, but I still thought the song was great and that others would enjoy it. At the end of the song I contemplated pulling the roll of Bags on Board out of my pocket and throwing it toward the stage as a streamer.

Man living in the city,
Man living with a dog.

Here's an audio version from CBC Radio with Jian Ghomeshi. Hit Listen, then select Part 2. The vocals are very clear and there's some commentary.

Here's a live video:

Enjoy.
