Related: About this forumI get to pick up my newly adopted dog Friday!
I am so excited!!!!! I haven't had a dog in eight years. I feel like I'm finally ready for another one. I've learned so much more about dog behavior and training (at least I hope so, lol). I have food, a bed, toys, treats, everything -- all just waiting for the doggie!

(11,065 posts)Where I used to live there was a big brindle greyhound rescue that lived across the street named Dexter. He was the only dog that mine seemed to like.
Congratulations on your new family member!

(13,462 posts)I am happy for you. Adopting our Layla a little over 2 years ago was the best thing we ever did. Such joy. I knew NOTHING about dogs at the time we brought her home, fortunately she's thrived, LOL, despite me.
The furries are such joy. I had so long forgotten that, intentionally, because of loss in the past. The joy they bring is so wonderful though. So many mornings I stop to say goodbye to my precious girl and am almost late to work rubbing that furry white belly of the mostly black dog. Angels, only way to describe pets.

(17,528 posts)Someone here told me that when I adopted my dog and I didn't really believe them...but it's true. By adjusting...I mean them learning all about you and your habits and how to fit in perfectly with you and your ways and family. It's a big adjustment for them. Too bad we can't explain things to our fur babies...it would be so mush easier for all.
