N.Y. senator vows to pass toughest gun laws in nation

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/01/04/gun-control-new-york/1809857/

ALBANY, N.Y. — A breakaway group of New York legislators vowed Friday to help Gov. Andrew Cuomo pass the strongest assault-weapons ban in the country.

Sen. Jeffrey Klein, a Democrat from the Bronx, N.Y., who heads the now-five-member Independent Democratic Conference, said after a 90-minute meeting in Cuomo's office that the group supports the governor's legislation "wholeheartedly" and that he hopes it will be passed as soon as possible — preferably this month.

The governor has yet to reveal his gun-control proposal publicly but has said one is expected as part of his State of the State address Wednesday.

"I think we're on the same page," Klein said. "We have to do everything possible to ban assault weapons in New York, (as well as) high-capacity magazines, make sure that people with serious mental-health issues don't possess guns. And I think that's what we have to do in the state of New York — pass one of the toughest gun laws in the nation."

infringement of individual rights for a balance with social benefits.

Government has no authority to prohibit any right, just some infringement.

You need 2/3 of both House and Senate and then 3/4 of the states for ratification. Over half the House and almost half the Senate has NRA rating of "A", and there are many pro-gun states.

I just find it interesting how anti-gun New York is, or rather its politicians (protectors of privilege that they are). New York, the central location for the new robber baron era. Let's do protect those Wall Streeters.

To any crazy gun nuts who might be reading this, David Koch lives at 740 Park Ave., as do many other criminals.

Maybe because this MSM move is getting a little too close for comfort. Is it possible that some of these permit-holders may be strong GC advocates?

violent ex-boyfriends, violent ex-husbands, and by violent criminals who like to stalk but may not even know their names.

These women, including any rape victims, have firearms whose only purpose is to kill other people.

And, in this modern age, all these women probably have cell phones so they can easily call the police.

/sarcasm off

"HAMMOND IN, Nov 2007 – She was on the phone to the 911 system approx 5 minutes before shots fired. 5 minutes while this guy was breaking in to her home and looking for her! Not a cop in sight, only her firearm to protect her.

She was attacked by stalker Ryan Bergner. Prior to this he had slashed her tires, kicked at her door , accosted her at work, broken in to her house and stolen from her. Six police complaints filed against him did not stop him. 911 did not stop him. Three bullets did.

...about all this. If our leadership doesn't come to their collective senses and insists on pushing hard on highly restrictive gun control legislation, we'll have Kontrakt with Amerika Part Deux in 2014, and most likely a Republikan President in 2016. It's a Newt Gingrich wet dream.
