FL: 82-year-old Daytona Beach homeowner kills masked man trying to break in

[div class='excerpt']DAYTONA BEACH --

Police said an intruder was shot and killed after trying to break into a 82-year-old man's home early Thursday.

According to police, the homeowner, Charles Robbins, 82, awoke around 6 a.m. to find a man trying to enter his home, near Woodland Avenue and A1A.

...

Police said they believe Orshoski was behind several recent burglaries in the same neighborhood.

"The homeowner did something the criminal justice system couldn't do with this guy," said Daytona Beach police Chief Mike Chitwood. "We're familiar with the burglar. He put him out of business."

Apparently this is the third dead home invader in the neighborhood.

So you feel the same way when a pro-restriction supporter posts a story about someone getting killed/injured by a negligent discharge, yes?

donated the maximum legal amount to President Obama's campaign, and a few hundred to the Democratic Party.

How does that fit into your broad-brush view of the "gun culture"?

Try California with that 'share the experience' thinking.

If your neighborhood has had 3 home invasions and you're not taking measures, you're just stupid.

You would prefer the burglar remained unharmed. I am sure he suffered from certain economic pressures that caused him to choose his line of work. You are, no doubt, convinced he was FORCED to be a criminal. It really wasn't his fault that a series of his choices led him to the point where a victim refused to cooperate.

This was NOT his first time. Let me remind you what the cops had to say:

"The homeowner did something the criminal justice system couldn't do with this guy," said Daytona Beach police Chief Mike Chitwood. "We're familiar with the burglar. He put him out of business."

While catch and release criminal justice might make you happy, I truly believe that one less burglar in society is a positive outcome. He got what he deserved.

from circulation....you're getting criminal confused with useful person.

I figure an 82yo has other concerns besides having to get worked up over shooting an attacker. If this affects the shooter in anyway it should be making him/her aware of how vulnerable they are.

Either way the good news here is the person firing in self defence still has the ability to contemplate their actions...they can worry about silly shit like having been forced to kill an attacker, or they can worry about taking their heart meds but at least they can still think about being.,

the negatives from NOT shooting in self-defense (with consequences of death and injury) compared with possible negative PTSD symptoms as a result of shooting in self-defense.

Given the choice, I'll get up earlier than any iPhone addict and get at the head of the line for the latter.

And really who cares how many firearms people own as long as they keep and bear them responsibly?
