Answering Call About Armed Intruders, Police Kill Resident Holding a Gun

Updated, 10:07 p.m. | Two police officers shined a searchlight behind the single-family home in East New York, Brooklyn, on Thursday night, authorities said, and found a “highly anxious” woman flailing her arms inside a Chevrolet Tahoe.

It was the same woman whose rapid-fire calls to 911 had reported a home invasion. Her boyfriend, Dale Ogarro, had been grabbed by two armed men wearing hoods, masks and latex gloves and led — gun to his head — into his residence in the basement of the home, on Schenck Avenue.

“Where’s the money?” they shouted at Mr. Ogarro, according to officials’ account of the woman’s 911 calls.

Moments later, the officers saw a man who they later learned was Mr. Ogarro, 41, emerging from the back entrance with his hands up. He said there was not a problem.

Yeah, that already went bad, before the guy got shot.

What happens when you deal in drugs and carry a gun, people come after you, seems to me that none of them wanted to get busted by the cops, he could have easily just left the gun in the apartment after he showed the would-be robbers to the door.

The police answered a 911 call about an armed home invasion and saw a black guy with a gun and jumped to conclusions. Regretfully, holding a gun while black and around police on a call is extremely dangerous. Even for white guys it is dangerous but much more so for black guys. The police claim that they told him to freeze and he didn't.

Sometimes police do kill the good guy. Nothing is 100%. I will still continue to be armed, and careful around police. And I don't deal in drugs.

That is always a pretty safe bet in NYC especially when they have that much pot. That said, videos like this should be mandatory in any training class.

The gun was illegal it wasn't registered to him, weird how it was a revolver and they said it had one "in the chamber"...

which chamber? Were the other five empty? If so, were they re enacting a scene from the Deer Hunter? Oh wait, these are the same people who think they are qualified to dictate school security policy.

... by cops after failing to comply with their orders. Drug dealers robbing drug dealers. Is this an RKBA issue? I think not.

If anything, we might want to discuss whether NYPD are quicker on the trigger in certain neighborhoods than in others: something Bloomie might want to address along with stop-and-frisk. There's really not enough information here to determine whether or not this shooting was warranted.
