Evaluating the existing firearm ordinance in Oak Park

On Jan. 24 in the Council Chambers, citizens of Oak Park and other interested persons made comments/recommendations to the Oak Park Board of Health about how we feel about what form, if any, or even if such an ordinance, restricting adult, law-abiding, mentally competent persons from possessing handguns in Oak Park should exist

The authors point out some good points, such as cost and the failure of Chicago to honor their commitment to help pay for cost incured in past legal battles.

They thought Chicago would carry the financial load on the McDonald case and Ezell because Daley told them it would be OK and they couldn't lose.

Every other suburb that had a gun ban dropped it like a hot potato after Heller and the filing of initial NRA and ISRA lawsuits, Oak Park thought they were smarter than the rest of them.

Now the fine taxpaying citizens of Oak Park are stuck with a big chunk o' the legal bill that will easily run into 6 or 7 figures for them, Daley is retired and Rahm isn't answering the phone. Tough shit guys.

Oh, and the meter is STILL running because both Chicago and Oak Park continue to abide by the SCOTUS decision and are being "too cute by half" as the appellate judge said regarding their "revised" ordinances.

Maybe by the next local election cycle the taxpayers will realize how expensive their leaders stubbornness is getting.

a shining example of the definition of insanity. The bad guys won't bring their guns here cause we have a law prohibiting guns. But if bad guys do come, we'll just give them what they want. What happens when they run out of stuff?

"3) Because Oak Park and Chicago defied the Supreme Court and lost (McDonald vs. City of Chicago) legal fees of at least $1.6 million are owed by Oak Park and Chicago.

4) Chicago, which had promised to pay any legal expenses incurred by Oak Park if it would stay "steadfast" in its support of its ordinance and Chicago's ordinance, has now refused to honor its commitment, leaving Oak Park with unfunded liability of up to $800,000."

It's a shame we have to use the hammer of money to get the point across, but if that is what it takes, bend them over and fuck them with an oar.

Anybody who takes Daley at his word deserves all the fucking they get.

If the city fathers of Oak Park are that stupid, they should be made to pay the legal bills out of their personal pockets.

Daley never intended to actually give money to Oak Park. He lied to them like he has lied to everyone else each and every time it was convenient.
