For Some, Owning Guns Doesn’t Necessarily Mean Liking Them

The national debate over firearms regulation is often presented as a battle of extremes: those who view any effort to tighten gun laws as an infringement of rights versus those who see guns as a menace to society.

But gun owners like Michael Kundu come from a largely unexplored middle ground — a place of nuance and contradiction.

Mr. Kundu is a master marksman from rural Washington who owns pistols and assault rifles for self-defense, all while claiming to detest the presence of guns in his life and in the broader American culture.

“I’d love to see all guns destroyed,” he said. “But I’m not giving up mine first.”

Saying he'd give his up if everyone else did first is a good way of saying he'll always keep guns. Why doesn't he just admit that and spare us the qualifier?

The point you missed was actually a well-lit boulder. He doesn't like guns and violence. But he knows he needs a gun. Some other folks in the news fit that category, but are less hypocritical than this fellow.

Me? I'll keep mine whether or not others give up theirs. I enjoy shooting & hunting. And am not disabused of the notion some punk home invaders may choose other weapons.

Sure lot's of people have firearms for self defense and public safety, but they need to be introduced to whole firearm experience.

Someone they know and trust needs to introduce them to target shooting, maybe even hunting. There's a never ending source of pleasure and fun with firearms that many don't even consider.

Together we can stand this storm and push back and expand our freedom.
