The NRA’s War on America

The issue of the NRA vs. America is not only about the nation’s horrific gun violence epidemic. Americans have to decide whether the National Rifle Association and the gun industry should continue to corrupt our political system — whether the NRA with an estimated 3 million members and a management dominated by firearms manufacturers should control politicians and determine public policy for 315 million.

Or as New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has said, “The NRA is only powerful if you and I let them be powerful.”

The NRA has morphed from a group that represented ordinary gun owners into a front group for the firearms industry, whose profits are increasingly dependent on the sale of military-bred weapons like assault rifles.

Today’s NRA also stands astride some of the ugliest currents in our politics, combining the “Astroturf” activism of the Tea Party, the unlimited and undisclosed “dark money” of groups like Crossroads GPS, and the sham legislating of groups like the American Legislative Council.

Which military uses semi-auto rifles as it's primary weapon? Could you point it out on a map?

The Bermuda Regiment (British territorial defense force) used to use the Ruger Mini-14. I'm not sure why. They're changing over to the H&K G36 with full-auto capability.

Consortium News went down hill over the past ten years. Now it looks like Fox Left. It used to be good. Is that what passes for journalism? It is actually worse than the WaPo one. All this clown did is regurgitate bits from other sources he or she already agreed with. I don't see any evidence of fact checking or original research. Plus, he/she used loaded language, a clear sign of propaganda, not information.

Today’s NRA also stands astride some of the ugliest currents in our politics, combining the “Astroturf” activism of the Tea Party, the unlimited and undisclosed “dark money” of groups like Crossroads GPS, and the sham legislating of groups like the American Legislative Council.
The NRA's money is pocket change compared to AARP.

Speaking of Astro Turf, see MAIG and MDA. According to emails from NYC servers (MAIG uses NYC government servers, and official email addresses) obtained by a NY FOIL request (aka FOIA) Bloomberg hired former Monsanto PR executive Shannan Watts to create a "gun control version of MADD." Gary Hart approached them about creating a "gun owners for sane gun laws." They didn't like Hart.
Do you know that Bloomberg's chief of staff, a NYC employee, and Mark Glaze talked about on the day of Newtown?
“a couple thoughts for keeping the mayor ahead of Congress, the white house, the press.”
with a pdf attachment, containing his thoughts.

Then there was the pissing match between MAIG and Brady, seems MAIG didn't like Brady poaching their celebrities for ads.

That change in the NRA didn't spring forth from the head of Zeus. Something caused it.

It's always best to liberalize rights then to restrict them. Controller/banners have, to give credit when it is due, contributed mightily to the former, though they will never own up to it.
