Bangor Woman Sentenced For Illegal Gun Deals

A Bangor woman will spend a year and a half in prison after conspiring to make false statements in firearms application forms.

Court documents say Brynn McLeod bought 5 handguns in Brewer in 2012 using money provided by co-conspirators.

She said she was the actual buyer on the forms.

straw buying is illegal. She is going to jail. Do not know the case but I think it should be more time than that.

that anyone who straw purchases a firearm for smuggling or a felon should be charged as an accessory to any crime committed with the weapons they brought.

after the weapon is used to kill a 7-11 clerk.

If the national media gives the verdict enough publicity, it might stop a lot of people from straw purchasing firearms.

The straw purchase is a federal rap. The 18 months is similar to sentences I have seen for unregistered NFA items. I think a state can pass a law that says that if the feds get you for a straw purchase, you become and accessory or co conspirator for any crime committed with that gun. Not being a lawyer, maybe not. Worth exploring.

at the state level.

Passing such a law at either the state or federal level would undoubtedly have far more effect on gun violence than passing another assault weapons ban or limiting the number of rounds a magazine can legally hold.
