CPD announces 1,000 illegal guns seized in 2014

The Chicago Police Department has seized more than 1,000 illegally possessed guns so far this year, according to a department news release Wednesday.

The mayor's office used the milestone to underscore the value of stricter gun laws, reiterating its call for three-year sentences for illegal gun possession. During a press conference Wednesday, Mayor Emanuel and Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy also called for a gun-transfer reporting requirement, a federal universal background check, a federal ban on assault weapons and a federal ban on high-capacity magazines.

That's 20 guns a day. In a word: damn.

So, their's roughly 12,000 cops in a city of about 3 million people. How many guns are they missing?

And 2,

Who are they arresting? Because, of all the gun control proposals mentioned only one is proposed by cpd; three year minimum for illegal possession. That's gun control at most via deterrence. It's really just more strict sentencing. And yadda yadda yadda.

Do you think that all of these illegal owners are behind bars?

...I would wonder what this really means.

"You forgot to fill out your annual registration form in triplicate and hand-deliver it police headquarters between 9am and 11am on the 4th Wednesday of the month; we're seizing your gun, you criminal" seem a likely occurrence.

... the remarkable efficiency and professionalism of the Chicago Police Department. I'm wondering aloud just how many of those were scrap with no resale value brought in by people looking for a buy-back?

More proof they'd rather have victims...

Wonder what other item they'd like to see banned?
