http://www.buzzfeed.com/gideonresnick/a-pro-gun-group-stole-bloombergs-gun-safety-groups-name-on-f?s=mobileFormer New York mayor Michael Bloomberg announced on Tuesday the creation of Everytown for Gun Safety, a major gun-control campaign that will combine some of his previous efforts.
But a pro-gun group has already reserved that page on Facebook. The first post the group made proudly stated that it stole the name of Bloombergs group.
The administrator of the Facebook page, who refused to give their name, provided BuzzFeed with the following statement about the motivation behind the page: "I took the Bloomberg name because I wanted this page to remain open to debate, unlike his group at Moms Demand Action that block anyone with alternative views. Gun owners are getting a bad rep nation wide from their anti gun propaganda. As to who I am, I am your average citizen that believes the second amendment 'shall not be infringed.'"
When alerted to the presence of the page, a representative at Everytown for Gun Safety said that it wouldn't be long before it disappeared from Facebook.

(166 posts)...yet forgets to set up a Facebook page?
BWAH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!
More power to this pro-2nd Amendment guy who snatched this away from out of the banner's hands. Yes, I'm sure Billionaire Bloomberg will pull a few more millions out from his couch cushions and be able to get the page taken away and fill it up with rank anti-gun propaganda. But until then I appreciate this finger snap in his face.

(3,547 posts)I don't see how they can be "bounced" from it without facebook breaking their own rules.

(3,547 posts)I think they just assumed they would have more time before this became an issue. This shows their flawed understanding of the gun rights movement. They keep believing that it is essentially top down- run by the NRA. They believe that any action has to go through numerous people at NRA headquarters (which would take sometime). This can't be further from the truth

(26,596 posts)things like "grassroots" and "community-organized" actually mean?

(6,185 posts)... that they didn't have to wait for the official "NRA Talking Points" we hear so much about here?
Why, that would mean a pro second amendment type (and probable gun owner) just up and used their initiative with out prior approval?
They really don't get it on the other side of the issue.
They all wait for Bloomberg to write a check for ads and PR staff and issue a press release, benevolently ignorant of what's going on. The gun owners just get in their cars and go to their state capital on their own dime and time to meet their legislators face-to-face with a few dozen other constituents waiting in the hall for their turn. All of them malevolently well informed, without any talking points, on any and all pending legislation as well as their past voting record.
All triggered based on an online post about what they are considering passing.
There were three local "town hall" type meetings this week by gun control minded legislators in the Chicago suburbs, with a goal of further limiting concealed carry. They featured the Executive Director for Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence as the speaker. Each meeting requires an RSVP and has "Limited Seating". Two of them had 100 people allowed in the meeting room with 95 pro gun people attending, the third is tomorrow evening. It will have roughly the same results.
But you never saw such a depressed guy as the ICAHV spokesman. He got tough questions with follow ups asking for sources and facts. Nothing rude or loud, just very pointed challenges to his claims (he actually tried to use Kellerman and Bellisles as sources!). By the end of the evening he was slumped in his chair on the platform and wouldn't answer any more questions. As people filed out they thanked the State Senator for the opportunity to be heard.
It just took a single post on the Illinois Carry site to get that attendance at a crappy little town hall meeting, called on short notice. On 3 days notice people swapped shifts and changed appointments to be there on their own gas money and time. No Talking points from the NRA or anybody else.
Money can't pay for that kind of commitment and enthusiasm, or that kind of voting bloc.
