Texas mans curiosity led him to pick up a gun which accidentally discharged that he found in the bathroom of a Genoa Township restaurant.
Fortunately, only a cooler at the Bob Evans Farms Restaurant at 3880 E. Grand River was shot around 11:30 a.m. today.
Michigan State Police at the Brighton post said the 58-year-old Texan found a 9-mm H&K handgun laying in the restaurants bathroom and he decided to pick it up.
It accidentally discharged and the round went through the wall and into the cooler, a trooper explained.
The trooper said the Texan immediately put the gun down, walked out of the bathroom and told a restaurant employee who called 911.
The trooper said he believes the Texan, who remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation, had no intent to fire the gun and police are not seeking charges.

(11,417 posts)Why didn't it accidentally fire while lying there?
More likely the guy pulled the trigger and the gun fired.
Maybe he didn't intend to fire it but it was no accident.
Do we really make guns that can accidentally fire? If so why isn't the consumer product safety board recalling those accidentally firing guns? And who would want to carry an accidentally firing gun in his pants? Good buy toes or junk or some part of your body.

Facts are required to determine where this event falls on the accidental/negligent spectrum.
Do we really make guns that can accidentally fire?
Yes, the same as we make cars that can accidentally backup over our lawn mowers.
If so why isn't the consumer product safety board recalling those accidentally firing guns?
Nothing is foolproof because fools are so ingenious.
And who would want to carry an accidentally firing gun in his pants?
Until November 28, 2008, Plaxico Buress.
Good buy toes or junk or some part of your body.
That should be required reading!

(62,406 posts)I think every owner should be forced to carry liability insurance on their guns.

(17,502 posts)Most of the cases I read of people losing their guns in the bathroom are on duty cops.
Things like this are so rare, the premiums would be very low and high profit. Insurance companies don't pay out for suicides and criminal acts. But then, DC and Chicago gangs don't register their guns let alone buy insurance.

(18,600 posts)to know what model it is. Many LE forces use HK, and not many civilians are in the habit of leaving such expensive pistols laying around on bathroom floors.
Still my first guess would be the owner of said pistol is a 58 year old Texan...
