Man sentenced for attempted murder

POCATELLO, Idaho -
A man who broke into a Pocatello apartment with a machete and was shot was sentenced for attempted murder on Thursday.

On Thursday morning 6th District Court Judge Robert Naftz sentenced Twain Thomas, 54, to a five-year fixed sentence in the state penitentiary, and 10 years indeterminate on several counts of aggravated assault and attempted murder in the second degree.

On Feb. 22, police were called to the 200 block of South Garfield, where Thomas had been threatening neighbors that apartment complex with a machete.

When Thomas broke into the downstairs apartment of James Cvengros and his girlfriend Kaila Gearhart, Cvengros shot Thomas.

Does anyone think this could have ended differently?

1. 3 quick thoughts: 1) was the door made of cardboard? & 2) That was a justified DGU.

3) Seems like a fair sentence for the psycho with the machete.

Most of the cheap ones used cheap hollow core interior doors for entry doors.

6. I'm not sure. Did he eat breathe and sleep gunz, like some of you gunthusiasts do?

Did he have wet dreams about just such a scenario, and look forward to the opportunity?

7. Which gun enthusiasts here "eat breathe and sleep gunz"?

I think you fundamentally misunderstand the players involved EM.

Most of us are far less interested in guns than we are the actions and intentions of..."gun control enthusiasts".

8. What are "gunz"?

I checked Webster's; that word does not seem to exist.

"Did he eat breathe and sleep gunz, like some of you gunthusiasts do?" That behavior, if it exists, is still preferable to telling lies and slandering other people.

9. No wonder you have to use other people's cartoons to express yourself

I'm sorry, you refer to them as "my cartoons", but you didn't really draw them or think of the angle did you? You just cut and pasted it from somebody else, with nothing of your own to add. So you can feel witty and urbane?

You keep trying desperately to reduce DU gun owners to cartoon characters of human beings. I guess that's so you can feel free to ridicule them safely.

I know other types of people that also feel the need to reduce people they don't like or agree with to caricatures of real human beings to feel superior. But they aren't allowed on DU.

Isn't it ironic that you seem to post and whine here far more than in the forum you wanted so meaningfully to moderate?

10. Have I referred to them as "my cartoons", or did I say "my cartoon posts"? I think it was the latter

The posts were by me, of cartoons I've found elsewhere. The "my" part referred to "my posts". Reading comprehension skills for the win?

As to the GCRA Group, it was in need of a host to keep the riff-raff out, per the Group SOP, so I stepped up to the plate for a turn.

5. That door is pathetic.

I found the same article referenced on a gun site where it was though to be a staged scene. They didn't have the news article that accompanied it first and believed at first it was simple a pro-gun propaganda piece.

It makes me glad I have a solid front door; 10-15 seconds is very important in a crisis.
