94 US school and university shootings since Sandy Hook

In the two years since the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, there have been at least 94 other school, college or university shootings in the United States.

During the last three months alone, there were 16 school shootings, including one week where there were five incidents across five separate states, according to Everytown, a lobby group against gun violence.

1. Wow, I'd hate to live in New York. Gun laws must be lax compared to neighboring Vermont. Oh wait...

And I hear that a lot of guns in New York come from Virginia and ones in Illinois from Mississippi. I guess with easily available guns in those places, their violent crime rates must be through the roof compared to New York and Illinois.

Notice the number of "school shootings" bears no resemblance to violent crime rates, i.e. NY, GA, AK, LA, etc.

It should also be pointed out that plenty of states that declare schools GFZs also have shootings. What's up with that?

4. And yet we still won't get serious about school security....one would think folks want shootings.

I find it odd that those that fight hardest against increased security are the same ones that whine about guns.

It's like they would rather have more school shootings to get their way, than actually solve some problems with increased security.

8. Well, I guess the FBI definition of "mass murder" has been tortured out of existance...

Used to be four or more deaths (not including the perpetrator) in one setting at one time. I think it got lowered to three, then rolled into a new category, "active shooter."

From what I can gather there has been only one mass killing since Sandy Hook which occurred on school grounds. The California college killings involved three by gun, 3 by "knife/sharp-edged instrument" the latter method roundly ignored by DU controllers.

In Austin a mass murder was committed by some asshole driving a Honda up a closed street during the 2014 SXSW, and he was charged with four counts of murder. Ignored.

Of course, controllers all but ignore how school safety can be improved. I wonder why.

"lowered to three, then rolled into a new category"

Like when the brady bunch counts adults as "children. And when the gun control lobby rolled gun suicides and gun homicides and gun accidents into the category of 'gun violence'.

A. It magnifies the absolute numbers.

B. It leads to easier framing that 'its guns fault'. Theirs is a "our size fits all" solution, in search of a problem.

C. It pseudo-absolves them from having to distinguish between suicides and homicides and accidents.

D. Because of C, they feel entitled to castigate anyone that DOES recognize suicides, homicides, and accidents as the different problems that they are.

I wonder why.

See B. They want to go after the guns.

OK, it was with a crossbow. Kid went to school and shot his professor father with a crossbow after stabbing Dad's "side action" to death.
