Petition to allow guns at Republican convention earns 24,000 signatures

Change.org post attacks ‘irresponsible and hypocritical act’ of choosing
gun-free site for party’s gathering, citing ‘direct affront’ to second
amendment

An online petition to allow guns into the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July has received more than 24,000 signatures in favor of overturning the “irresponsible and hypocritical act of selecting a ‘gun-free zone’” for the party’s quadrennial gathering.

The convention will be held between 18 and 21 July at the Quicken Loans Arena, a venue with a policy that forbids “firearms and other weapons of any kind” on its grounds. Republican debate venues have also barred firearms.

The petition, posted anonymously to Change.org last week, declares the Cleveland arena’s weapons ban “a direct affront to the second amendment and puts all attendees at risk”.

“By forcing attendees to leave their firearms at home,” the petition continues, “the RNC and Quicken Loans Arena are putting tens of thousands of people at risk both inside and outside of the convention site”.

"Americans for Responsible Open Carry" does not appear to have a Facebook page or website and according to the article, appears to have been created specifically for the petition.

The venue is private property, so the owners are free to set policy, additionally the Secret Service is going to be in overall charge of security, so even if the venue owners change their mind (very unlikely), it is almost certain that aside from law enforcement the Secret Service will not allow firearms in the venue.

No weapons, period. (Regardless what the owners of the venue want).

from some group no one appears to have heard prior to the petition. I'm remembering something like 8-10 threads on the topic since the story came out.

They haven't had anything even vaguely approaching a "win" for ages and gun violence continues to fall. Even Bloomie's DIY "News" service is having trouble drumming up horror stories.

Then, they got all excited about Terry McAuliffe and his AG dumping CCW reciprocity!

Then the bottom dropped out and he expanded gun rights in Virginia instead.

Now even Iowa is allowing suppressors, that makes 40 states.

Pretty soon they'll be off the NFA Register.
