The goal is to convince everyone that nobody of any intelligence owns a gun except a few semi-sociopath losers.

Everybody on the Grabnutz side, with few wins on courts or legislatures, is desperate to just swallow Bloomberg's numbers whole, with no chaser.

The Pew study two weeks ago that showed a rise to a minimum 44% household gun ownership level, is suddenly forgotten or ignored, doesn't fit the narrative that gun ownership is less and less popular. (So all you gun owners are a fringe group , seeee!)

So, who you gonna believe, Bloomberg's latest bought and paid for "study" and a handful of his well paid "researchers", or your lying eyes that see lines at the range and the LGS, a massive jump in new FOID cards in states requiring them and new ranges going up all over?

I followed the debates over marijuana legalization for nearly 30 years, and have belonged to activist groups for some two decades. Much of the dynamic for grinding out studies from "foundations, centers, and institutes" to support continued prohibition is replaced by the gun controllers, quite often with MSM compliance (i.e., no questions, no attempt at getting alternate views, which were certainly available). And as with gun control, MSM was -- and largely remains -- pro-WOD as a matter of "public health." I think the public health concerns are a ruse for culture war. Notably, for all the wailing and concerning in editorial pages, MSM still sees the two issues as "hot button," an expression that diminishes the issue, giving it a colorful jokester image. They can't have it both ways.

.... in a deep blue state, makes us either an incredible anomaly, or proof that the whole "fewer gun owners" religious belief is pure BS.

There's only one reason to go through the hoops and background check to get an Illinois FOID, you want to buy a gun in the near future. (Hopefully after taking a basic pistol or CCW class.)

I spent way too long in marketing research, not to realize how easy it is to slant the results of a survey by selective sampling and the text and tone of the questions.

I think the Grabnutz are flailing around trying to find a "crisis" that will get some traction with the general public. They keep trying the same 4 or 5 issues (health crisis, mass shootings, accidents, et. al.) and recycling them with no luck. Now they are trying to convince everyone that; "it's just not socially acceptable to own guns, see how few people own them now?"

Not going to work either.

...half are here in the US. So about 0.4% of the countries in world own 50% of all the worlds firearms. Don't quote me but I think if you consider all arms of all types and include those government and military weapons, the US would be over 75%.

7. Speaking of multiple firearms, I am convinced that an improved cylinder bore...

is best during early dove season. I have a 55 year old Remington 870 in fixed modified choke. This works well for general bird hunting, but the IC has noticeably improved my shooting to somewhat above average. I can now use this choke, and numerous others, because I purchased a more modern 870 designed for swapping out chokes, and for using steel shot. This probably explains some multiple purchases, for even if you are a knock about hunter, weaponry updates are hard to avoid. Another example: Retiring the Winchester Model 94 in .30-30 calibre with add-on peep sights, in favor of a Remington 700 in .270 with a scope because of hunts in Texas Hill Country (longer shots), and later, less-than-stellar vision. I imagine the big majority of hunters have access to multiple weapons for these very basic reasons. And there are some 13,000,000 of us.

Have you ever seen a decal on a car or truck with 3 bullets standing side by side? They are quite popular here in OK among fundamentalists and militias. That symbol is a reference to the 3% owning the majority of the guns and also to the fact they believe that it only took 3% of the population to win the revolutionary war and that with just 3% of todays population they could also win a 2nd revolutionary war against the United States.

What absolute BS.

Pew just did their yearly study showing either 46 or 48% of households have firearms... Even the 'low' was 44% if I remember correctly.

This sounds like one of those studies where they purposely set out to 'prove' a point, and didn't accept any data that wasn't going their way.

That fact that they based their entire study on the assumption that there are fewer gun owners than in the past shows exactly what they were out to prove.

And since this 'study' was obviously commissioned for Bloomberg's gun control media site "The Trace" it's pretty obvious what the intent was.

This will never be published, it's click-bait for the gun control lobby and would never come close to passing peer-review in a real scientific journal.

11. 9.57 Million is a load of people...even owning 17+ guns each.

Add in the other 60+ million, and you have at least a 1/4 of the country who own guns.

And the numbers being bought up is always climbing, as is the number of carry permits.

At the rate of 23 million background checks a year these days, that 265 million number seems a bit low...likely closer to 400 million.

Anyway - 70-80 million gun owners...

That is a LOT of votes.

The unpublished Harvard/Northeastern survey result summary, obtained exclusively by the Guardian and the Trace, estimates that America’s gun stock has increased by 70m guns since 1994. At the same time, the percentage of Americans who own guns decreased slightly from 25% to 22%.

The new survey, conducted in 2015 by public health researchers from Harvard and Northeastern universities, also found that the proportion of female gun owners is increasing as fewer men own guns. These women were more likely to own a gun for self-defense than men, and more likely to own a handgun only.

If this study exists, done by shills like David Hemenway. Since it isn't published, and his prohibitionist studies usually aren't, in a peer-reviewed journal in sociology or criminology, it isn't worth mentioning.
