The Oath Keepers, Proud Boys and others of their ilk will not be disarmed, laws or no laws

At least by local cops. To believe otherwise is to embrace a Neville Chamberlain level of naivety.

All of these people will still be around January 21st, and some of them will undoubtedly be making the move from 'threatening sedition' to 'full-on sedition'

Slate: "A Photographer on the Most Disturbing Thing He Saw at Trump Rallies"

...The real problem is, I have never seen the police ever arrest a Proud Boy. I’ve witnessed multiple fights between Proud Boys and I guess you could call them “antifascists,” but unless you’re willing to walk away after getting shoved and being spit in the face by a Proud Boy, then shit is going to happen. And they’re not the ones getting arrested. In every place I’ve ever covered these fights—in Portland; Columbus, Ohio; Philadelphia; New York City; or Washington—the person that gets arrested is not the Proud Boy. The Republican Club in NYC was a big anomaly, but that’s what generally happens...

Too often the stages of a worsening problem are ignored by the government financed support system. We have a system where social workers and public health care (physical, mental...) are under paid/underfunded. Concurrently police departments have funds to buy government surplus armored personnel carriers. Most towns have law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical teams but cops are the one size fits all solution for most problems.

If your grandparent or grandchild was having a mental health crisis, what options are there? For poor folks in busy big cities, mostly you wait till it's an emergency because you can't afford to do anything else.

For the most part the police arrive after the damage is done. Arrest the problematic folks and go back to write reports on the events. Seldom do the police arrive in time to protect anyone.

IMO law enforcement is often over funded considering the lack of funding (or existence) of less urgent intervention options. But when all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.

Have a nice evening.

My problem with the popular slogan is number of outright silly things that can be inferred from it.
If what you support is expressed in a phrase that isn't deterministic, are you helping that cause?

Unless they can be registered as a terrorist organization, which they are, and disallowed from marching, they are above the law, it seems.

Rebel on a significant scale. I think probably the cops would help put them down too. Anyone who has ever fought for this country would stand against them. Don't believe the fascist propaganda that they are 3% of everyone. They are the 3% of gun nuts who own a significant percentage of the guns in this country. To be accurate, they can only fire one gun at a time. They will try to use police, but they hate them too. Soon they will pick a fight with real authorities and that's when it will hit the fan.

Remember the wildlife preserve takeover? Asshole pretended to be going for a gun and state troopers iced him. I know these aren't the same groups, but there is considerable overlap in the ideas they have. They are a paper tiger, a roaring mouse. Once Trump is gone they will subside .

As my buddy says, and I agree, "I fought better men than Trumpers in Afghanistan. "

Small, well-organzized groups can raise a level of hell far out of proportion to their numbers for a very long time.

I am being optimistic. But there is room for hope. I am on my own in my little town and can only hope to get my family to safety should hob nailed boots come kicking in my door.(that's Pink Floyd , man.) But our beautiful blue world class cities are full of poor folks trained in urban tactics. They will not come there. These are not disciplined fighters. Bravado falls to discipline every time. The blue states will survive if worse comes to worse. I do not think it will come to this. They don't have a Jefferson Davis or a General Lee.

Shit. Even my positive thoughts are grim as Hell. Note to self: Don't paraphrase Pink Floyd when trying to raise morale.
