Roop had 14 firearms and a concealed weapons permit. Was he a gun nut? You bet.
What is it with these gun nuts and their penchant for human hunting and subsequently hiding behind cowardly NRA-backed laws? Zimmerman and now this twit:
Florida man kills door-to-door salesman: Ill kill anybody that steps on my property

A man in Cape Coral, Florida on Wednesday was arrested for shooting and killing an unarmed door-to-door salesman on his property.
Kenneth Bailey Roop, 52, has been charged with second-degree murder for killing 30-year-old Nicholas Rainey.
A co-worker who witnessed the shooting said Rainey had knocked on Roops door, but received no answer. While Rainey was walking down the drive-way, Roop pulled up in his pickup truck and asked why Rainey was at his house. Rainey explained that he was selling steak and seafood. The witness said Roop then pulled out a black handgun and shot Rainey. As Rainey lay on the ground, Roop fired another bullet into the back of his head.
Roop later told police that he shot Rainey in the head for effect and that he had three no trespassing signs on his property. Roop said he feared for his life.

Kenneth Roop is simply another gift to the American people courtesy of the NRA.

(881 posts)Trying to pin this on the NRA is childish at best. Do you enjoy it when the right pins every miscarriage of justice on the ACLU? Hypocrisy shouldn't be a virtue.

An impartial trial isn't for murderers and the ACLU just enables this sort of thing by protecting the so-called rights of these monsters.

Would not even be legal if it was an armed felon that had been attacking him. Self-defense becomes murder at that point.

(118,278 posts)... Seven years ago, Roop pulled a weapon and threatened a power company meter reader who had walked onto his property in Wildwood, south of Ocala, according to former prosecutor Ray Sotomayor.
Sotomayor led the state's case against Roop in 2005, when he was charged with improper exhibition of a weapon.
Sotomayor said the uniformed meter reader approached his home to perform her job when she was confronted by Roop, who was aiming his gun directly at her ...
"I knew this guy was a time bomb, I really did," Sotomayor said. "It's unfortunate we didn't get him convicted" ...

... More and more people are alleging Stand Your Ground, Fort Myers prosecutor John Mills said Friday. Lawyers apply it to the way facts are given, but many times different witnesses have different interpretations of the facts. ...
The jury is still out on it for me, Fort Myers defense attorney David Brener said. There are going to be cases where people are going to be less hesitant to use deadly force because of the law and thats not a good thing for society. But on the other hand, oftentimes your average person is unaware of the potential for violence in certain segments of society. Things can quickly escalate from mere words and glances to someone trying to kill you. ...

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - ... "Not guilty plea will be entered right away along with the demand for all evidence," said Attorney John Musca.
According to the Cape Police probable cause affadavit, the shooting happened after Rainey was leaving Roop's home trying to sell him meat products. One witness did not hear yelling or or that there was a problem before Roop first shot Rainey in the shoulder, then in the head while Rainey was on the ground wounded at the end of Roop's driveway. We asked Roop's lawyer if this was accurate ...
"The facts and circumstances which gave rise to the allegation are still being considered, researched, and investigated by this office," said Musca.
But we may get a glimpse of Roop's defense strategy by looking at what he told Police just after the shooting. According to the affadavit he says when he spoke with Rainey the salesman made him feel, "more than a little nervous" and Rainey "had something in his hand." ...

... Collier County Sgt. Kristin Shiner heard those gunshots. She was at her Cape Coral home at the time. She grabbed her gun and badge and ran to Nick's aid. She says he was hardly breathing when she arrived.
"I had not seen anyone in the area so I had assumed the homeowner had gone back into his home and people dialed 911 until I heard a slide," said Sgt. Shiner.
Sgt. Shiner heard the sound of a gun reloading and that's when she noticed Roop in the garage and ordered him to drop his gun ...
