Vermont is more Florida then Florida when it comes to CCW

There is no requirement to get a permit in Vermont to carry a concealed gun. One just has to be at least 16 to do so legally. As Vermont doesn't issue permits, there is no background check or requirement to attend a safety class. Those under the age of 16 have to have permission of a parent or guardian to do so. Those under the age of 16 who are caught carrying a gun (open or concealed) without a parents or guardians permission may be charged as a delinquent child.

Vermont is the only state in the country that allows a person under the age of 21 to purchase a handgun and carry it concealed.

The CCW laws in Vermont is often referred to as the "Vermont Carry" and this is the standard some RKBA supporters are trying to achieve nationwide..

4. Just pointing out to those who focus on Florida that Vermont is far more lax.

It appears that in Vermont, a 16 year old selling popcorn and pop at a movie theater can legally carry a concealed handgun as long as the establishment doesn't expressly prohibit it. And a 14 year old could do the same as long as he/she has permission from their mom, dad or guardian to do so.

7. I'll take your word for it, but I fail to see how any of that is relevant.

What is relevant is the fact that Vermont has the most liberal gun laws in the nation, yet has the second to the lowest gun crime rate in the country.

Why do you think this is? While the two stats are definitely correlated, I am unsure one is caused by the other.

8. People who complain about lax gun laws like to use Florida as an example.

Because of its high crime rate. It wouldn't be no where near as effective as trying to argue for stricter gun laws and use Vermont as an example of why such laws are needed even though Vermont's gun laws are far more lax then Florida's.

like the old west (movie version, not historical).

They should adopt sensible gun laws like Detroit or DC.

As for cities like Burlington and Brattleboro? Why you might as well be in Chicago or Newark, NJ...

10. In VT, you can

drive around with a loaded machine gun in your front seat. Yet there is hardly any violence there, why?

Doesn't this pretty much nullify any gun control argument? Most lax laws, almost no crime.

11. Michigan would have a homicide rate of about 1.5 if one took out Detroit and Flint.

Detroit and Flint account for about 8% of the state's population but also account for about 73% of the homicides in the state. From 2000 to 2010, Detroit accounted for 81% of the state's justifiable homicides.

In 2010, Detroit had a homicide rate of 43.

13. I think my standard answer for "sensible gun control" will be the "Vermont model".

Works a hell of a lot better than the "Chicago model", the "D.C. model", or the "California model".
