Senator Dianne Feinstein says she'll reintroduce assault weapon legislation

Here we go again........ Seems like the old gun controllers that pushed this crap back in the early 1990's are still around and still pushing the same old crap...and crap being crap, it still smells the same.

I wonder if they realize the election is just a few weeks away? Have they forgot what happened?? Are they that blinded to toss it ALL away, perusing gun control legislation that is proven extremely unpopular? And with a strong pro-gun majority in both houses any gun control legislation is almost doomed to fail before it even starts?

http://www.scpr.org/news/2012/09/05/34168/senator-feinstein-says-shell-reintroduce-gun-legis/

Just a reminder, lest we forget... Mr and Mrs America, turn them in...

Now excuse me, I must head back to Charlotte tonight!!

Not before being discussed on the nightly news, and exploding all over the internet and Facebook...

As proof "that the Democrats want to take YOUR guns away"... Someone needs to tell her to "check the gun ban talk", she does not have a clue that she is talking about far and away the MOST popular guns in America right now, and have been for about 15 years.

Talk like that costs us votes.

It gets her points in her district, so she doesn't really care about the rest of the party. Personally, I can't wait for this hypocrite of a woman to retire. She opposes CCW but yet has one of her own, talk about "do as I say, not as I do".

a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.

So everything from m1 garands to winchester bolt-action rifles to every pistol ever carried by a cop is now an 'assault weapon'.

What a moronic piece of legislation.

The Ruger Mini-14 is on the ban list. It also bans duplicates of it. So if it passed all Ruger would have to do is make some minor cosmetic changes and give the gun a new name.

originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm

Depending on how much of an asshole the AG wanted to be, that would cover damned near anything Ruger made.

Here's a couple of on-target observations from the comments in response to the article:

She has to be endorsing Romney. Introducing this in front of a close election is idiocy.

She just sold a million rifles and handed Romney a million moderate voters.

Senator Feinstein has become noticeably less vocal about gun control over the last decade. She must realize it is no longer a vote winner and has moved on to other topics. Outside of an obligatory statement now and then, she does not seem to have the enthusiasm she once had.

Her introduction of this legislation must be to repay a past favor, or she need some assistance in another area. I would expect that once the announcement has been made to the public (keeping up her end of the deal), it will be sent to committee where not even Senator Feinstein will pursue it.

I've got a feeling if we keep doing the exact same things that failed in the past over and over again it'll work.

Somehow.

Possibly involving warlocks or voodoo.

.. and the heisenberg uncertainty principle.. and a dead/not-dead cat..

But back in the real world, President Clinton's DOJ funded a study on the AWB's effectiveness. Here's a portion of what they found..

Should it be renewed, the ban’s effects on gun violence are likely to be small at best and perhaps too small for reliable measurement. AWs were rarely used in gun crimes even before the ban. LCMs are involved in a more substantial share of gun crimes, but it is not clear how often the outcomes of gun attacks depend on the ability of offenders to fire more than ten shots (the current magazine capacity limit) without reloading.
...
All of this suggests that the ban’s impact on gun violence is likely to be small.
...
there has been no discernible reduction in the lethality and injuriousness of gun violence, based on indicators like the percentage of gun crimes resulting in death or the share of gunfire incidents resulting in injury, as we might have expected had the ban reduced crimes with both AWs and LCMs.
