Powder Springs Gun Range OK'd to Serve Alcohol

The small selection of alcohol would be served during the hours allowed by Powder Springs law and in a lounge secured with a special key given just to members. The only people under 21 who could enter are the children of members, and they wouldn’t be allowed to drink.

“It’s not really anything new. It’s what things are changing to,” Owner Kristina Brown said, noting alcohol is served in ranges in Arizona and Kentucky. Drinks wouldn’t be a “profit center,” she explained, but rather a perk.

Guns would not be permitted in the lounge, and once inside, customers couldn’t return to the shooting range. A gun valet system with lockers will be available, but customers could still exit the building with their weapons.

“So what happens in the parking lot?” Hudson asked at the work session before the meeting. She said she had received calls from two “very upset” constituents. “I come from a family of hunters. We have guns … but alcohol and guns do not mix.”

The commercially organized Schützenfest of Hanover, Germany, is the largest marksmen's Fun Fair in the world with more than 5,000 marksmen, 250 rides and inns, 5 large beer tents and the "Marksmen's Parade". The parade with more than 10,000 participants from Germany and all over the world and more than 100 bands is 12 kilometres long. It is the longest parade in the world. The landmark of the funfair is the highest transportable Ferris wheel in the world. It is 60 metres high and can transport 420 people in 42 cabins.

It may be unique in the US, but I doubt it is unique in the world.

They can't go back out to the range or bring weapons in I see no problem with this. As for the parking lot, they would have already secured the weapons in the car or unloaded in the locker prior to entering the lounge so unless you're worried about drunk driving I fail to see a problem.

Just how do people get home?

Maybe once a person enters a restaurant/bar they should put their keys in a lock box until they can pass a breathalyzer.

Big to do about nothing.

Here in Texas, we go hunting deer, field dress the animals, hang for cooling, then retire to the lounge (a junky porch on a hundred-year-old farm house) and hit the free bar: Cheap 12-packs from H.E.B. What's really scary is the big talk about our 1,000 yard shots.

They aren't allowed to go back and shoot.

Your concern is that they get to leave with their gun? Well wouldn't they have the right to drink at a bar and then go home (to where their guns are) or just drink at home (where their guns are)?

If anything it ensures some oversight and puts you around people who are aware of gun safety when drinking.

The only real concern is the driving home bit. Same as any place that serves alcohol.
