(9,644 posts)And I must say, when you demand constitutional amendments and lack a fundamental of understanding of the subject at hand the results are fairly predictable.
That said, legislative action is far from dead. My guess is that there will be some action, possibly before the mid terms.

(5,046 posts)Election time has proven to be the antidote to most politicians that loudly trumpet their support for Gun Control, let alone push legislation. They are well aware of their vulnerabilities. Case in point, Joe Manchin of WV, very quickly drawing back from his lip service to the gun control movement.
Mark Warner of VA, has been silent on this issue as well, since he stuck his foot in it.
Manchin even had a large number pro 2nd Amendment protesters at his office, with one Gun control supporter... To use a local term, Manchin knows where his corn bread is buttered, and who brings the butter...

(11,064 posts)The first AWB was passed after an unhappy businessman went into a law office of a major San Francisco law firm and shot up the place. It was one of the enclaves for the rich and the super-rich.
Diane Feinstein pushed hard for the AWB, and she did not do so "for the children." She and her husband are exceptional wealthy participants in the military-industrial complex. If she really wanted to take action "for the children," she would take steps to help extricate this country from the endless wars in the Middle-East so that the children of this country would not have to pay for the military adventures.
The passage of the first AWB did not stop or mitigate the Columbine High School shooting.
She and others are pushing for another AWB because of the rich and the super-rich.

(17,493 posts)Piers Morgan: I Would 'Seriously Consider Deporting Myself' Over Gun Control
Posted: 12/31/2012 10:06 am EST
Piers Morgan made yet another call for gun control on Sunday and threatened to deport himself if America's gun laws do not change.
The CNN host became an outspoken critic of current gun policy after the Newtown shooting, which took the lives of twenty children. Morgan made another deeply personal appeal in a Daily Mail column published Sunday.
He compared the Newtown shooting to the Dunblane school shooting of 1996, in which sixteen children and one adult were shot and killed in Scotland. "It was a slaughter so senseless, so unspeakable, that it reduced even hard-bitten news reporters, including me, to tears," Morgan recalled.
He described his own reaction to gun advocates' response to tragedy in Newtown as "blind rage," and tore into those who have argued that more guns is the answer. Morgan also turned to the recent petition calling for his deportation from the U.S., and cited his own experience as a father.

I enjoy listening a good debate on any subject as it allows me to hear both sides of an issue and formulate my own opinion. When I tuned in to watch several Piers Morgan shows on the issue of gun control I found that while Piers was very polite to those who support strong gun control he was overbearing and obnoxious to those who supported gun rights. He would ask a question and never allow his guest to answer but would fly into a rage and hurl insults at them. I was surprised to realize that Larry King is actually a far better interviewer than Piers Morgan will ever be.
While I support gun rights, I also realize that there are good points to be made for stronger gun control in our nation. I don't dislike Piers because he wishes that we had gun control laws similar to those the the UK as he has every right to his views just as I do to mine. I do find being lectured to by a bombastic Brit who feels that Americans are merely misguided children of his mother nation somewhat irritating.
Perhaps Piers is hoping to emulate Bill O'Reilly who often uses the same tactics and also frequently screams and yells at his guests in anger. I realize the CNN ratings are currently suffering but playing O'Reilly will do little to improve them. Many years ago I felt O'Reilly was a fair interviewer and I enjoyed watching his programs as I was able to hear both sides of an issue. Unfortunately success O'Reilly to believe that he is "The Man" and far smarter than his guests.
In recent years politeness and respect has suffered in our nation as the two sides of any issue have that it's far more fun to squabble like children in an unsupervised playground than to find common ground. Compromise is a lost art in our nation. If we are ever to solve the serious issues we face as a nation we need to move beyond insulting each other and show at least a minimum of respect for those who hold different views.
