Veterans Day is more honoring our service. But I don't like being thanked for my service. Most of the time it's just words without thought or meaning.

Although, they've transformed from a solemn day or remembrance into just another party weekend.

I agree about being thanked. I think that's the point they're trying to make in the chorus,

"And they thank me for my service and they raise their little flags.
They genuflect on Sundays and, yes, they'd send us back."

Certainly nobody thanked me for my service when I returned from 'Nam. That didn't start happening until they needed canon fodder for Iraq.

I had a desk job and was not even allowed to go near a war zone. Hell, I served 4 years and did not even earn a good conduct medal. Maybe I should get a t-shirt that says, Don't thank me, I only enlisted so I would not go to Vietnam and I was a lousy soldier.
