1. Who you calling Chicken Master, human?

We got 10 chicks about the same time as you did
to rejuvenate our aging flock.
They are lots of fun,
and should be laying shortly.
Ours were supposed to be all hens,
but somehow, one of the Barred Rocks turned out to be a rooster.

We'll have to see how that plays out.
He has plenty of hens now (18) to keep him busy,
but if he turns mean, he'll have to go.


This is certainly a Delayed Gratification endeavor requiring lots of up front labor.
Glad to see your place doing so well!
Living in the solution is its own reward,
but it is especially gratifying when the labor & sweat starts producing green dividends.

2. looks just like my barred rooster.

also out of 4 easter eggers i got one red star and 2 roosters. and the remaining hen looks a little like a mutt. i may let them have a clutch, but there are a couple chicken dinners in the offing. one rooster is one thing, but 3 roosters and 9 hens? trouble. got enough of that crop already.

and the chicken master is my spray bottle that sends them where i want them to go. gonna try and send them over to the farm. i think i can get them there, and back seems pretty easy. they know dinner is waiting. today the older batch was waiting on the stairs to go back in.

if my "coop" doesn't arrive tomorrow, i am going to ride my bobcat over to tow it home. lots of work to be done before it is ready for chickens, tho.
so much to do.

fantastic rewards tho, as you say. oh the tomatoes! and the sweetest onions. cucumbers that actually have flavor.
i am a lucky stiff. very very lucky.
