1. Meshell Ndegeocello

She would kick the ass of any bassist they could come up with.

2. Bands are all about "chemistry"

I was in a local 4 piece rock/funk/blues band.in the 1990's. All male. We had a growing following and played mostly originals. Our bass player left for college so we had the lead singer's friend play bass. She was very attractive and would wear mini skirts on stage.

We went from 4 dudes jamming and making cool music to a "band with a hot bass player".
People had commented on our music skills but that all ended when she came aboard. All the comments were about her.

I didn't want that. The chemistry had changed dramatically. Sadly, I left the band.

I'm blaming no one. It is what it is.

4. Exactly HOW "friendly" was she with the singer? And what percentage of her comments

had to do with how well she played?

5. They weren't seeing each other

She was a good player but music comments stopped.

9. You were absolutely right to conclude that your band had mortgaged its potential.

If I had been you, I would have quit -- but if I had been the bassist, you wouldn't have had to.

I would have considered the non-musical nature of the "new" comments to be a serious problem. And I would have tried to solve it by turning down the dial on my "stage presence" AND turning up the dial on my musical skills.

As talented as she may have been, she clearly wasn't talented enough to either offset her looks OR help contribute to the continuation of compliments on how good the entire band was -- which your other bandmates should have noticed.
