Judge: Lawyers Can Have Michael Brown Juvenile Records

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS CLAYTON, Mo. — Jun 24, 2016, 9:44 PM ET

A judge says attorneys for the city of Ferguson and other defendants in a wrongful-death lawsuit brought by Michael Brown's parents can have access to juvenile records involving the black 18-year-old who was fatally shot by a white police officer in 2014.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch ( http://bit.ly/28X7tfg ) reports that the judge said those who are granted access to the records can't disclose the confidential information.

The ruling Thursday from St. Louis County Circuit Judge Thea A. Sherry says permitted viewers include attorneys, clerks, paralegals, legal secretaries, investigators, people present at depositions and consulting experts. The information must be kept locked in lawyers' offices.

The city's lawyers argued that the information could "lead to the discovery of admissible evidence" in the lawsuit against Ferguson and the officer who shot Brown.

Judge orders release of Michael Brown juvenile records

By Valerie Schremp Hahn St. Louis Post-Dispatch 1 hr ago

CLAYTON • A judge has ordered that the juvenile records of Michael Brown be unsealed at the request of lawyers representing Ferguson in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Brown’s family.

St. Louis County Circuit Judge Thea A. Sherry made the ruling Thursday, and also issued an order outlining how the records will be made available.

Nobody is to disclose the confidential information, and the unredacted parts can’t be electronically transmitted, her order says. The information has to be kept under lock and key in lawyers’ offices.

The order also outlines who are permitted viewers, and that includes attorneys, clerks, paralegals, legal secretaries, investigators, people present at depositions, and consulting experts.
