All Black Men Look Alike.
Or at least that was what I got after reading a comment today.
There was a great thread praising Elijah Cummings today, for his role in the email hearing. A man I truly respect.
One post took exception to the man for this:

"I was responding to a reporter's question who asked me to assess Sen. Sanders' civil rights record. I said that when I was leading and was at the center of pivotal actions within the Civil Rights Movement, I did not meet Sen. Bernie Sanders at any time," Lewis said in the statement.
"The fact that I did not meet him in the movement does not mean I doubted that Sen. Sanders participated in the Civil Rights Movement, neither was I attempting to disparage his activism," he added. "Thousands sacrificed in the 1960s whose names we will never know, and I have always given honor to their contribution."

Sadly the poster does not know the difference between Elijah and John. It is sad when they are lumped into one group, black men. It is sad that a black man is judged by the color of his skin and not the content of his heart and soul.
I have to say, when you can not tell the difference between Elijah and John, well you have some huge issues to deal with.

Often called "one of the most courageous persons the Civil Rights Movement ever produced," John Lewis has dedicated his life to protecting human rights, securing civil liberties, and building what he calls "The Beloved Community” in America. His dedication to the highest ethical standards and moral principles has won him the admiration of many of his colleagues on both sides of the aisle in the United States Congress.
He has been called "the conscience of the U.S. Congress,” and Roll Call magazine has said, "John Lewis…is a genuine American hero and moral leader who commands widespread respect in the chamber.”
He was born the son of sharecroppers on February 21, 1940, outside of Troy, Alabama. He grew up on his family's farm and attended segregated public schools in Pike County, Alabama. As a young boy, he was inspired by the activism surrounding the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the words of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., which he heard on radio broadcasts. In those pivotal moments, he made a decision to become a part of the Civil Rights Movement. Ever since then, he has remained at the vanguard of progressive social movements and the human rights struggle in the United States.
As a student at Fisk University, John Lewis organized sit-in demonstrations at segregated lunch counters in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1961, he volunteered to participate in the Freedom Rides, which challenged segregation at interstate bus terminals across the South. Lewis risked his life on those Rides many times by simply sitting in seats reserved for white patrons. He was also beaten severely by angry mobs and arrested by police for challenging the injustice of Jim Crow segregation in the South.

A civil rights icon trashed on DU for an endorsement of Hillary. He tarnished his reputation? How was that, oh wait he made his voice be heard. His voice and he sure as hell fought hard to make his voice heard, all PoC heard, yet you dismiss his voice, their voice. It was a long time coming and his fighting for civil rights and here you are telling him his vote does not matter.
You know the other thing sad, in my OP. The poster has no clue who John and Elijah are. They confused one with the other. They are just black men, they are one and the same, after all they look alike.
This whole thing unfolding makes me incredibly sad.

I guess Lewis should have paid more attention to Bernie's well ventilated and climate controlled campus sit-ins 1,000 miles away, while Southern cops were trying to beat him to death.
Shit, why was Lewis hanging with MLK in the Deep South anyway, when he could have picketed with Bernie outside a Howard Johnson in the mean streets of Cicero, IL?!
In fact, Lewis should have noticed Bernie in the crowd at the March on Washington...while Lewis was speeching in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Hell, my Mom was also in the crowd. How come John doesn't remember her?!

I am fortunate enough to have Elijah as MY Rep in Congress and oh, am I PROUD of him! 
John Lewis is not my Rep. But I am also proud of HIM!
Both great AA Congressional Reps. I am closer to John Lewis age-wise; Elijah is several years younger than I.

Here, my father worked as a laborer at Davison Chemical Company. Although his work life was not free from prejudice or pain, his membership in the Chemical Workers’ Union assured his family of a dollar an hour, overtime pay and a health care plan.
That same union card helped my parents make the down payment on the home where my mother lives to this day, and allowed their children to attend the better schools that would transform our lives.
