The Dear White People trailer is out--film to be released in a couple of months.

Dear White People Trailer Nails Everything From Hair Touching to Taylor Swift
By Jesse David Fox

The first trailer for Dear White People was very funny, but it was hard to tell what actually happens in the movie. This full trailer solves that problem. It appears Dear White People skewers modern race-relations from all possible angles while telling the story of four African-American students at an Ivy League college, centered around a college radio show. The film opens on October 17. There will not be a Dear Black People sequel.

If the writing is as smart as the trailer suggests, this could be good. I hope so, anyway; it's a good platform for new talent, too.

Though I am in the purplish part of a very Red state, purple ... even blue ... has demonstrated an inability to deal with race. It makes places suck.

Sometimes they put those festival films on cable TV--you have to pay for them, of course, but it might be a good opportunity to have a party and watch the movie. It's worth checking before you travel a zillion miles--unless, of course, you're itching to get outta town for a few days!!

I'm always itching to get out of town ... it makes marriage a whole lot more exciting!

But short of that, I think I'll talk with the local indie theater and have a special screening.

Special Breakthrough Talent. That tends to be a film winked at by old Sundance Kid himself as I understand it. That alone tells me this could be a ground breaker. And looks like Scissor hands himself is pushing this through. 1000 screens minimum if that's the case.

important to me--first, the writing sounds SMART. I like a good script that sounds like actual conversation and not movie lines--the clips deliver in that regard. Next, the actors are talented--at least in the trailer, anyway--they don't look like actors playing parts, they look like people caught on camera. Finally, the production values look really, really good...I hate bad lighting, particularly the overly bright stuff that casts a shadow and I don't see any of that here! It looks well-filmed. If the film is "nearly as good" as the trailer, it'll be great to watch!

Here's the website, love the poster--I think this is a great opportunity for these young actors, what a great 'credit' to have on one's resume:

Dear White People is written, directed and produced by Justin Simien. The film stars Tyler James Williams ("Everybody Hates Chris," Peeples), Tessa Thompson (For Colored Girls, "Veronica Mars&quot , Kyle Gallner (A Nightmare on Elm Street, CBGB), Teyonah Parris ("Mad Men," They Came Together), Brandon P. Bell ("Hollywood Heights&quot , Malcolm Barrett (The Hurt Locker), Brittany Curran ("Chicago Fire&quot , Marque Richardson ("The Newsroom&quot and Dennis Haysbert ("24," Far From Heaven).

I loved this film. It was witty, insightful, provocative AND entertaining. The "School Daze" for the current generation. Congrats to producer Effie Brown for picking a winner.
