WINNEBAGO (AP) — An election has been scheduled for May 5 to replace three Winnebago Tribal Council members who resigned after an investigation showed that council members had given themselves raises and bonuses.
Council members Travis Mallory and Morgan Earth resigned in March, and Chairman John Blackhawk resigned last week, ending his 20 years as chairman of the nine-member council.
A tribal investigative committee detailed the allegations in a February report. It said that council members gave themselves raises of 35 percent in fiscal year 2013 and that at least one council member gave loans to family members.
