After the Dark Phoenix saga, the various story lines have greatly improved.
more depth to all the characters.
Cyclopes is still uptight as all hell.
Professor X has softened a little since finding Lilandra.
Wolverine is getting darker by the issue but has also embraced his roll as an X-man.
I am waiting for Storm to get her powers back
Still waiting for the other shoe to drop regarding Rachel and Jean Gray.
But it's certainly getting to be a more interesting read.
The very early stuff from the 1960's and early to mid 1970's was, at times, really painful to read to the point I almost gave up.

(62,504 posts)that's the point when I think the writing got so much better.
that was most definitely a pivotal moment in the comic. it pretty much defines them and their universe.

(17,862 posts)that Professor X had for his teenage student, Jean Grey? Try publishing that today.
Perhaps that is why Cyclops turned out the way he did - who knows what psychological damage Xavier did to him because of his jealousy.
Also did you reread the 30? reprint issues before Giant Size X-Men #1? Now that is what you can a franchise reboot.

(62,504 posts)I'm not sure what you mean by "the 30"?
professor x and cyclops were both pretty much bizarre dysfunctional dickheads in roughly the first 150 issues.
regarding Prof X and Jean Grey, yeah, that was a very bizarre relationship. And with the introduction of 14 year old Kitty, I thought that was also a little weird as well, but then I thought that these comics were originally aimed at kids those age, so I had to take it with a little bit of salt.
but from an adults perspective, yeah, very weird.
