Heck, the way he leaves the last Arya chapter in GoT is with Yoren pushing her off into an alley and coming at her head with a knife. Of course we learn in CoK that he was just cutting off her hair so she could pass for a boy.

I'm withholding judgement until book 6. It's Martin, so you never really know, but I'm inclined to think he has too much left to do with Jon's character yet to have offed him so abruptly.

Just finished it last night.

Here's one big unanswered question that's been hanging over the last couple of books (at least for me): Whatever happened to Rickon Stark?

Melisandre is in the immediate vicinity. Don't expect him to be dead for long.

In fact, I think two things will happen when he's raised:

1. He will in fact be reborn as Azor Ahai, and Longclaw will be pulled out of the flames as Lightbringer.
2. Because of the woods witch prophecy that Azor Ahai would be born of the Targaryen line, it would lend credibility to the theory that Jon is not Ned's son, but in fact Lyanna Stark's son from her union with Rhaegar Targaryen.

He's my favorite character, after Tyrion. But there have been several resurrections already in the series (though ZombieCatelyn just isn't her old self), and at least one instance of a character presumed to have died who was merely gravely wounded, but recovered.

Remember, also, that Jon - like Bran - seems to be a warg. He might well be able to pass his consciousness into an animal while seeking out a new body. I was awfully found of the one he had/has though.

Everyone who has died, Martin and come right out and showed how they died in graphic detail. When John was stabbed all it said was that he blacked out.
