Cop nearly raped in Brooklyn courthouse
A female cop was nearly raped by a prisoner in a Brooklyn courthouse Friday, but court officers thwarted the attack, a police source said. The officer was escorting a prisoner to a hearing inside Brooklyn Criminal Court at about 11:20 a.m. when another prisoner, Jeriah Bamugo, 26, allegedly grabbed the officer by the neck and threatened to rape her.
They tumbled to the ground as he tried to undress the cop, police said. Another prisoner attempted to come to her aid but court officers were able to intervene first and cuff Bamugo, the source said. The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment for minor injuries.
Bamugo was charged with attempted rape and assault — his third arrest of the week.
On Monday, he was charged with stalking and harassment, for allegedly hassling a 28-year-old woman at Kings County Hospital, then released.
Then, on Thursday, he groped a 52-year-old woman in East Flatbush and punched her, police said. He was in the courthouse to be arraigned in that case when he attacked the officer, police said.
