1. Some stats..

Jun 2012

Giants: 37-29

Lincecum's starts: 2-12

Everybody else: 35-17

Tim also sports an ERA of 6.19, his WHIP 1.571..The Giants are going to throw away the whole season waiting for Lincecum to come around. Sit him down, shut him down...whatever. Something needs to be done.

You don't sit/shut down a pitcher who has won two Cy Young awards and has been staff ace unless he is injured or overworked.

You don't sit/shut a pitcher to whom you are paying $18 million.

You don't sit/shut a pitcher who is improving from start to start.

Depsite his issues he pitched five innings last night and kept the Giants in the game. Four runs -- okay, not great. But enough chance for a win that Affeldt let get away in relief.

Why are you so quick to throw him under the bus?

It's been over 2 months with no change. Need I remind you they're 2-12 in his starts? Need I remind you, that in the last couple weeks, he's given up leads to two of the worst hitting teams in MLB, the A's and Mariners?

Currently his ERA of 6.19 ranks 111th in MLB ( his line last night of 5 ER in 5 IP is just more of the same), his WHIP 105th.. The Giants are being forced to play .667 baseball in the non Lincecum games just to stay in the race. They won't be able to maintain that pace..again, something needs to be done about his spot in the rotation..

Lincecum is not some kind of sacred cow..team comes first..

Btw, there is no evidence Tim is improving start by start..may I suggest you've been listening to Mike Krukow too much..

In matters of baseball, I'll take Krukow's assessment over yours.

and as for Krukow, sure I like him, but his assessment (excuses), at least according to the numbers, is just plain wrong..

After Lincecum pitched against Arizona on 5-30, the only game in his last 8 starts in which he gave up less than 4 ER ( no surprise he lost them all), he possessed an ERA of 5.82. Since then, in 3 starts, he's given up 5 ER in 6 IP to SD, 5 ER in 5.2 IP to Texas, and last night's 5 ER in 5 IP. His ERA increasing to 6.19....Tim is not only not improving start by start, he's actually getting worse.

Though I have serious doubts, I hope you're right and he'll eventually turn it around. However, in the meantime, the Giants are essentially giving away 20% of thier games..

With the Giants resurgence at the plate I'm not worried. They might have pulled out a win last night if not for the defensive mistakes and Affeldt's poor relief.

BTW, there's speculation today by local pundits that Tim could skip a start given the upcoming schedule so that Voglesong, Bumgarner and Cain would be in line to start against the Dodgers. But Bochy says that isn't going to happen.
