(29,322 posts)I thought it was interesting they said he's underpaid since I remember him signing a big contract extension either last year or the year before.
He makes $500,000 this year but really kicks in next year w/ $4,500,000, then $7.25 million in 2014...

(9,709 posts)at least according to fangraphs. His WAR last year was 5.7, 2012 he's already at 5.2. Anything above 5 is considered superstar territory.
In 2011, each win above replacement was worth 4.5 million...and McCutchen was at 5.7. You do the math. The average starting position player is only worth a 2..The Pirates are getting the kind of production of a player worth easily 15-20 million, if not more..
