Associate Press / 9-19-12
NEW YORK -- Major League Baseball appears unlikely to interfere if Melky Cabrera wins the NL batting title while serving his 50-game suspension for a positive drug test.
The San Francisco Giants outfielder began Wednesday with a league-leading .346 average, seven points ahead of Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen.

"You can't change records because once you get into that it would never stop," Selig said. "It would create more problems than it would solve."

(56,177 posts)How many games do you have to play in...10, 20? Maybe the whole season? Seems like he has an advantage since he can't go down at this point.

Then again, he can't go up, either, in the event that McCutchen gets hot.

(56,177 posts)seems kind of low if it is 112 games.
KamaAina
(78,249 posts)And I believe the number is a bit higher than 112, since some playoff games will be part of the suspension.

Could this be another "It's OK if it's my guy"?

(20,365 posts)That should have been part of the punishment.
