Is the Big 12 now the new MWC?
I wish I had seen this, but I was flying back to Denver.
Geno Smith and the fast-moving, high-scoring Mountaineers proved they fit right in with their new conference, outracing No. 25 Baylor 70-63 on Saturday in the Big 12's highest-scoring game ever.
Smith tied a conference mark with eight touchdown passes and narrowly missed another one with 656 yards passing.
''It did feel like one of those classic Texas shootouts,'' said Smith, whose school moved over from the Big East this season. ''That's kind of what the Big 12 is about.''
Smith outdueled Baylor's Nick Florence, who broke Heisman Trophy-winning predecessor Robert Griffin III's school record with 581 yards. Florence threw for five TDs.
School, conference and FBS marks all got rewritten in this one.

(16,113 posts)Flawed "D" is a conference requirement. The only team with a decent "D" I've seen so far is the team in the big "D" (well, Fort Worth actually).
Pretty much only Texas (after they lost the NC to Alabama) has had a top 10-20 pass defense in the Big 12. This year they fell off pretty far. Oklahoma has a great pass D so for but that is after games against UTEP & Florida A&M. It'll be interesting to see where they are after their loss to Kansas St.
About TCU, they had an excellent D during their Fiesta/Rose years and pretty solid the few years prior but they weren't Big 12 at the time. Hopefully they continue their ways and I'm sure they will as long as Patterson is at the helm.
