NEW ORLEANS -- Ray Lewis stopped admiring himself in the mirror for long enough to talk to the media Wednesday, and he will be pleased to hear that the experience was almost spiritual.
He said he is "too blessed to be stressed." He said he announced his retirement before the playoffs began not because he enjoys attention but because "I believe that you should give everybody a fair chance to say their goodbyes." Anyway, don't you worry about those goodbyes being a distraction, dear NFL fans, because as Lewis said, "For my retirement in the game, I haven't thought about it at all."
He also said questions about performance-enhancing drug use are "a trick of the devil," which makes me wonder how he reacts when the NFL requests a urine sample. Does he hold it in, on religious grounds?
There is no stopping the Ray train at this point, people. There isn't even a train station. The Ray train just goes around in glorious circles, over and over again.

(22,143 posts)I hate the Jesus crap from anyone. Far as I can tell no one on my team murdered anyone.
If you're referring to Vick, I never wanted him and he can't be gone soon enough. But even if I was a fan of his, what he did, as you know, is not the same thing. At all.
So bite me.

(64,920 posts)Lewis has been convicted of a misdemeanor. When he is convicted of killing someone then I will believe what the Eagle fan says.
BTW, Josh Brent did kill his best friend by driving drunk.

(41,692 posts)You guys still have that jail in your stadium?
MrSlayer
(22,143 posts)Not every stadium has a makeshift courtroom for same day justice as we used to have at The Vet.
Once they opened The Linc most of the real fans were priced out by the Biff and Muffy crowd. The upper levels are still rowdy but there is no intimidation factor anymore.
We still have this killer rep but it's all just hype from the distant past now. Going to a game here is the same as going in Kansas City or Dallas. Rather tame really. I miss the old days.

(16,113 posts)but Ray Lewis isn't much better and I haven't heard a peep. Could that be because people figure in Lewis' case, it's all just an act?

(56,177 posts)And for some reason they buy this jackass' born again bs...at least Timmeh was brainwashed since childhood...Ray does it so he doens't have to talk about how he participated in a murder.

Whatever works for you, right??
Same with St. Timmeh. He's making money off of his stuff and not even having to play!!

(16,113 posts)I think it was something that was drilled into his head from a very young age and he's a full-fledged kool-aid drinker.

(64,920 posts)on with St. Timmeh.
Just the fact that we continue to talk (endlessly) about a player who played on about 20 snaps in the entire season, says that the self promotion is working!!
hughee99
(16,113 posts)I just find it odd that people give St. Timmeh a hard time for self-promoting based on who he is, and Lewis a pass for self-promoting as someone who we don't believe he is. Usually, someone gets a little leeway for "at least being genuine" instead of being a phony, but it seems to work the exact opposite in this case.
As far as the Tebow talk goes, if he were backing up a good QB on a good team, and/or he were in a different market (I think the NY press believes it can beat a dead horse back to life if they just keep trying), I don't think you would have heard almost anything about him this year once the season started.
