Clayton Kershaw / Dodgers: 7 years, $215 million

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw have agreed on a seven-year, $215 million deal, sources with knowledge of the situation said.

Kershaw has an out clause after five years.

It is the richest deal for a pitcher in Major League Baseball history, eclipsing the seven-year, $180 million contract Detroit gave Justin Verlander last winter.

Keep spending, Dodgers! More! More!

Not saying Kershaw isn't worth it, but Satan West seems to just throw money at people without thinking through whether it's smart.

Keep spending. Just as Eddie DeBartolo's 49er expenditures hastened the NFL to adopt a salary cap, perhaps this will do the same for MLB. It's the only hope for small market teams.

and with a pitcher making roughly 30 starts, that means Kershaw is making approximately $1 million every time he takes the mound. Sometimes I wonder when it's going to end.

Pressure on Kershaw. You wonder what kind of mind-fuck this creates? I hope a big one.

Until then, the there's a lot of money to be made and the players will get a good bit of it.

Skews your average a bit, but not by much. Still over 900k every game he starts.

Even though Kershaw is still young (25), 7 years is a hell of a long time to commit $30 million/year for. It sounds like the Dodgers have the cash to spare, though.

You'll see more of this as we already have with teams with huge TV contracts such as Angels & Rangers. That is the state of the business of baseball.

Point is they can afford to be wrong.
