(29,322 posts)from what I read, Japan blew several opportunities but are still alive.
Columbia is done, they advance. Japan and Greece are still alive. For any of them to advance they need Ivory Coast to lose to Greece. Japan will face a Columbia team that already has their ticket punched and they're ahead of Greece in goal differential. A setup for some exciting matches.
No argument it was a dull game but those are rare at this level.

(9,709 posts)I believe there's only been three 0-0 games thus far. World Cup scoring is up overall, averaging in the vicinity of 3 goals per game. I found the Brazil/Mexico match the other day one of the more exciting scoreless draws I've seen. While Greece/Japan was a study in strategy considering both teams needed the three points and Greece played a man down more than 1/2 the game..
I notice you didn't mention matches such as the Ivory Coast scoring 2 second half goals in 3 minutes to turn a 1 goal deficit into a win, the US getting a late winner versus Ghana or Suarez and Uruguay doing the same thing to England yesterday..
I find the sport far preferable to watching teams made up of a bunch of freaks with overactive pituitary glands throwing in a 100 points a game..

(9,709 posts)average height and weight for your typical NBA player by position. These stats from 2012..
PG: 6'1" 189
SG: 6'4" 202
SF: 6'7" 221
PF: 6'9" 236
C: 6'10" 251
Even the point guard position is manned by players who are quite a bit larger than average. That's the thing about soccer and baseball too, average size players can still succeed at the highest level. Not so in the NBA, except for some very rare exceptions..

(4,528 posts)Soccer is the only game that has to be manipulated to get a winner. In all other games they have a way to end a game playing the game. If you use hockey in the playoffs as an answer to another game that ends in a shootout you are wrong. They PLAY THE GAME until they have a winner as in sudden death.
Only soccer ends the game not playing the game(shootout). What gives? Why can't they figure out a way to end the game playing the game?
That would be like after two overtimes in basketball let's just have a one on one contest to see who wins. Yeah that's the answer.
