TCU No. 1 in latest computer ranking

Maybe we should have one more game after next week’s national championship to see who plays TCU.

The Horned Frogs, left out of the College Football Playoff, are the No. 1 team in Jeff Sagarin’s latest rankings after their dismantling of Ole Miss. Sagarin’s rankings were included in the old BCS formula that was replaced by this year’s College Football Playoff.

TCU entered the final season ranked third but fell to sixth after beating Iowa State 55-3. Sagarin’s latest rankings were complied after Thursday’s games.

Oregon beat Florida State 59-20 and Ohio State stunned Alabama 42-35 to advance to the first College Football Playoff National Championship Jan. 12 at AT&T Stadium.

Here is his top 10:

1. TCU

2. Ohio State

3. Oregon

4. Alabama

5. Georgia

6. Michigan State

7. Baylor

8. Ole Miss

9. Mississippi State

10. Auburn

Bear in mind that TCU faced significantly weaker opposition this week than Oregon or certainly Ohio State.

Lots of SEC teams in there that lost yesterday and the day before...this "computer" is almost as biased as the 12 douchebags and the war criminal.

The only hard righty I know of who is is Kinda Sleazy Rice, who, whatever her other faults may be, is certainly not a Klanswoman.

Note that #10 isn't Auburn, it's actually 7-6 Arkansas who was the ONLY SEC West team that looked good in their bowl game (they gave up only 59 yards to the very weak Texas longhorns). Auburn is number 11.

I'm a fan of the SEC, particularly Arkansas, and I can't make sense of these rankings.

The predictor uses margin of victory (or defeat) to come up with its ranking while Elo is based on the Elo-Chess rankings, doesn't use it. But they cap it so there is no incentive to "run up the score" so anything more than 21 points (don't know the number) is weighed the same.

It is a very helpful system especially when it comes to college basketball (especially later in the season which means the rankings are more effective). You add the points for home subtract the difference and biggest differences from the posted spread is the games I hop all over.

do losses matter?

TCU just barely loses at Baylor, Baylor still top ranked team.

THE Ohio State loses at home - in front of largest crowd ever at that time - to Virginia Tech Hokies (7-6 record now). Urban Myth states if "we don't get by people" we will have a lot more of these. Nothing like headphone-throwing confidence, is there?

As a 'Bama fan, I am so glad the selection committee eliminated TCU in a boardroom and not at the Sugar Bowl. Alabama was just a step below the best this year as anyone who saw them play week after week will tell you. Alabama got lucky.

So did Ohio.

That selection committee on December 7th made one of the worst decisions in the history of all sports.

All the Frogs have to hope for is that when Oregon vanquishes the Minions of THE Ohio Satan, that they will be #2 in the final AP poll. But even so, I am expecting a second prejudicial incorrect vote.
