Boxing Returns to its Roots - On NBC

http://www.nbcsports.com/boxing/return-network-tv-nbc-boxing-returns-its-roots

After decades spent on the outskirts of American consciousness, the sweet science is finally returning to its ancestral home -- network television.

In a seismic announcement, NBC revealed Wednesday that it will televise 11 boxing shows on its main network, including five prime time presentations and six weekend matinees.

For a sport long beleaguered by negativity, the revelations brought palpable excitement to NBC's 30 Rockefeller Center headquarters, where ring titans Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns and "Sugar" Ray Leonard reveled in boxing's return to the top of the marquee.

While the notion of prime time network boxing might seem as alien as a VCR to the Snapchat set, the sport was once a potent presence on the country's three main television outlets.

As a worker at an NBC affiliate I'm excited. I hope this means there will be more "event" boxing matches again.

They will be covering cards from the east-to-west coasts. At this time, they are talking to Greg Haugen about being part of the team of announcers.

The cards they are looking to have a hand in promoting (as well as televising) are really solid. It's anticipated that another network will soon be featuring boxing on a regular basis, too. But I think they will be promoting bouts that while just as competitive, will involve fighters a bit lower in the rankings.
