Hope Solo Suspended By U.S. Soccer

Yesterday TMZ broke the news that former Seahawks and Buccaneers tight end Jerramy Stevens was arrested in Los Angeles early Monday morning for DUI. Hope Solo—the U.S. Soccer goalkeeper and Stevens's wife—was also in the car, and TMZ says she and Stevens were belligerent with police

U.S. Soccer interviewed Solo about the incident, and afterwards suspended her for a month. Via the New York Times:

U.S. Soccer officials, including [coach Jill] Ellis, learned of the incident through the TMZ report Tuesday afternoon. They confronted Solo, who has been with the national team in Carson, Calif., for a three-week camp that began Jan. 5, and she gave her version of the events, according to a source with knowledge of the meeting.

"During our current national team camp, Hope made a poor decision that has resulted in a negative impact on U.S. Soccer and her teammates," the national team's coach, Jill Ellis, said in a statement released by U.S. Soccer. "We feel at this time it is best for her to step away from the team."

Solo, 33, has accepted the 30-day suspension and left camp, the source said.

So getting arrested before this for domestic violence didn't get her suspended. But this is what gets her suspended. Hmmmm

I don't know, but it seems like it would make some difference. In any case, she needs to get help for substance abuse.
