Browns' Josh Gordon facing 1-year ban (another failed drug test)

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon has failed another drug test and now will be subject to a one-year suspension, according to league sources.

Gordon tested positive for alcohol, a source said, confirming a report by Pro Football Talk. The failed test is the latest in a long line of setbacks for Gordon, whose future in Cleveland and the NFL now will be in question.

"Clearly we are very disappointed to hear the latest report regarding Josh," a Browns team spokesperson said. "At this point, due to the confidential nature of the NFL's substance-abuse policy, we have not been made aware by the league of a failed test. We are in the process of gathering more information and will provide further comment at the appropriate time."

Gordon was arrested on July 5, 2014, and charged with driving while impaired after speeding down a street in Raleigh, North Carolina. Gordon was previously suspended for the first two games of the 2013 season for violating the league's substance-abuse policy.

One would assume that's the end of his playing career. Who would take a chance on him?

I get that 23 year old guys aren't generally known for thinking ahead, but this guy is throwing away an enormous talent.

Hopefully he gets his life together.

alcohol, in the offseason? Are you kidding me?

These punishment over-kills over minor offenses is the only side effect of these life choices. He may not have been wise in that he caught with alcohol of all things, even people with probation or parole (talk about ticky tack violations) would risk a drink of alcohol because it doesn't stay unless they draw a hair sample which gives a detailed timeline since alcohol absorbs in the hair but I see the NFL as much bigger dumb asses for killing this young man's career over basically nothing.

The NFL's Anti-Weed Policy Even Extends to Drugs That Could Prevent Brain Damage (dumbass)

The case of Josh Gordon, a star wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns, is proof that the NFL comes down hard on players who use marijuana. Gordon — who had failed three previous drug tests — was handed a season-long suspension prior to the 2014 season after he was busted for smoking pot, which the league considers a banned substance. The ban was later reduced to 10 games after the league reworked its drug policy.

Until now, the league's strict anti-weed policy has only had an impact on which athletes are allowed to compete. Now, however, the hard-line stance may have serious consequences for the long-term health of players who suffer repeated concussions.

For the past few years, the NFL has grappled with how to handle chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, a degenerative neurological condition caused by concussions. In July, the NFL settled a lawsuit over concussion-related brain injuries brought by more than 4,500 former players, agreeing to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to compensate victims, pay for medical exams, and underwrite research on diseases such as CTE.

KannaLife, a New York-based company, is now working with the federal government to develop a drug that may prevent certain neurological disorders, including CTE. But the drug is derived from marijuana, which has made the NFL reluctant to lend its support.

NFL in their infinite wisdom, strictly punishes violations of using a drug that may be helpful in preventing something they went great lengths to avoid the PR disaster and deemed much more contacts of the NFL illegal.

He was at a house party with Manziel, the implication seemed clear but no controversy and now he loses another year because of alcohol. Overall drug laws & NFL policies badly need reform. He was suspended way too much over basically nothing. Its a shame.
